Als Hayden und Kenny Miles das erste Mal zusammen in einer Band spielen, sind sie acht und 13 Jahre alt. Ihr Vater hat in ihrer Heimatstadt Whitesburg im Südosten von Kentucky gerade eine Kirche gegründet und die beiden begleiten ihn in seinen Gottesdiensten an Schlagzeug und Bass. Die Gegend um Whitesburg - und das ist wissenschaftlich belegt - ist die mit der niedrigsten Lebensqualität in den USA. Seit Mitte der 1970er Jahre in steter Rezession befindlich. Geringstes Pro-Kopf-Einkommen, kürzeste Lebenserwartung, straff republikanisch. Die Antwort auf die Frage, wie die beiden und der feingliedrige und subtil störrische Alt-Country ihrer Band Wayne Graham dort hineinpassen, ist einfach: Sie tun es nicht. „Mexico" ist bereits ihr viertes Album - das erste, das in Europa erscheint - und obwohl die beiden erst 26 und 21 Jahre alt sind, hat es eine fast übernatürliche Reife. „Mexico" ist konzise und clever. Extrem eingängig, aber nie banal. Kunstfertig, aber nicht verkopft. Die Lieder sind oft extrem kurz und die erstaunliche, luftige Produktion, die die beiden im Keller ihres Elternhauses bewerkstelligen, ist wie eine Übung in Reduktion: wunderschöne Akkorde und Melodien, ein unheimlich musikalisches Schlagzeugspiel und immer an den richtigen Stellen: widerborstige kleine Details und Breaks und Zeilen, die wie für die Ewigkeit geschrieben wurden: "Like the wolf outside we are led by desire, we are ruled by the time we have lost."
