about

English:
Rumen Welco started off a as a three piece band in the late Nineties with an almost religious admiration for Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock. The audience didn’t know what to make of these three underage weirdoes who had named their band after a Hungarian exchange student in their high school but local journalists and bookers loved them dearly. For years, their career consisted of little more than support shows at Dresden’s best music venues for artists such as Howe Gelb, Adam Green or Interpol. Songs such as “(Ricky) You’re My Beater” are so well-rounded and flawless, one is almost tempted to oversee them on their label debut which is finally being released in 2009. Their story telling is abstruse and interesting. In the song “Girl In The Painting” the protagonist falls in love with a portrait of RAF-terrorist Gudrun Ensslin. Also, they have the ability to write songs that immediately sound like classics on first listen. Their music sways somewhere in between Songs: Ohia, Smog and Pixies or, more often, appears to have fully fallen out of time.
