about

Philipp Makolies has released two solo albums under the name Lestat Vermon in only little more than one year. Apart from that, the trained stone mason and former guitarist of Polarkreis 18 is currently an integral part of a production of “Hamlet” at Staatsschauspiel Dresden with his band Woods of Birnam. Lestat Vermon is his playground and his vision of the perfect song, a place where he can freely follow his musical intuition. He still bases all these songs on nylon string guitar, even though the second album “Hillside” strikes more atmospheric, free-flowing paths than its stripped-down predecessor “Clouds”. On “Hillside”, carefully arranged instrumental parts balance Makolies’ laid back vocal delivery. They shape into instrumental verses, sneak as guitar solos or pointed vibraphone melodies into its eleven tracks. Vibraphone, keys and horns are once again handled by Ludwig Bauer, who has also written a few string arrangements that move the album even closer to the height of classic singer/songwriter records of the late 60ies and early 70ies.
